Matt Damon Says He's The 'Dumbest Actor Of All Time' For Turning Down 'Avatar'

When you're a really successful actor, you must get offered tons of parts that you just can't or don't want to take for whatever reason, and most of the time you probably don't have many regrets about that.

Sometimes you do, though. Let Matt Damon tell you.

Matt Damon's had a very successful career and he's certainly not hurting for cash.

Google estimates his net worth at somewhere around $170 million, which is nothing to sneeze at. In a new interview, though, Matt has revealed just how much more that number could have been.

Matt said he was offered the lead part in one of the highest grossing movies of all time, 'Avatar.'

And not only that — he was offered a cut of the entire profit. Matt told GQ, "Jim Cameron offered me Avatar. And when he offered it to me, he goes, 'Now, listen. I don't need anybody.'"

"If you don't take this, I'm going to find an unknown actor and give it to him, because the movie doesn't really need you'."

"'But if you take the part, I'll give you ten percent of...'" Matt said he was offered. When asked to clarify if he was offered 10% of the film's profits (which brought in about $2.78 billion), Matt agreed.

When another interviewer had done the calculations on exactly how much money he'd missed out on, his reaction was relatable.

He said, "I don't want to hear it, I honestly don't want to hear it. I do like the fact that I'm allowed to say with pride I'm the dumbest actor of all time. I'm like the worst businessman."
