The annual race always makes headlines, but this year, the focus was on a mom who was able to pump breast milk during the race.

Molly Waitz of Cutchogue, New York, used a hands-free breast pump to pump milk twice during the approximately 27-mile race.

Molly gave birth to her son, Bode, eight months ago and needed to pump milk as she was at the race for the majority of the day.

Breastfeeding moms like Molly need to pump when they're away from their children to keep their supply up and prevent infections.

Molly finished the race in six hours and 46 minutes, and pumped about 20 ounces of milk.

This was her first marathon and Molly raised money for First Candle, a charity that raises awareness about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Earlier this year, ultra race runner Jasmin Paris was photographed pumping breast milk for her daughter during a 268-mile race.
