'Grey's Anatomy' Star Caterina Scorsone Suffers Tragic Loss Of Pets In House Fire

While it was a good morning for a lot of people on Monday, it wasn't for Caterina, 41.

The Grey's Anatomy actress took to Instagram to disclose that she lost her four pets in a fire outbreak that also burned down her house earlier this year.

In her Instagram post, Caterina posted a picture of her burned house and her pets–three cats and one dog- lost in the fire.

The picture also included a shot of Caterina and her children—Arwen, 3, Paloma, 6, and Eliza, 10— all daughters who were also at home when the fire started.

Caterina revealed that she shared the news with her followers to “honor the space we once called home, to say goodbye to the animals that loved us so well, and to celebrate that we have the only thing we ever really needed: each other."

The house was burned down months back while the actress was getting her children ready for bed and rounding up bath time.

Rob Giles, the ex-husband of Caterina, is the father of her three kids. The actress filed for divorce from her husband after a decade of marriage.

However, they are cordial around each other and resolute in co-parenting their children. The duo tied the knot in Toronto in June 2009. And they remain friends after the separation.

In a split moment, smoke started to percolate through the grout around the tub, and before she knew it, the smoke had overshadowed the house. 

Accidents happen so fast, and it was no different in this case. Caterina had only about two to three minutes to evacuate her children from the house, and they escaped with little clothing. While she lost what she once called her abode, she is grateful for safety. 

Although Caterina and her kids made it without scratch, they lost all four pests. She revealed that they are still mourning their loss but are lucky they were able to love them at all.

“This is a post about community. This is a love letter to the incredible people that showed up and the incredible ways that they did."

"Thank you to the firefighters and the investigators (thank you, Trey!)" 

"Thank you to my neighbor who answered our frantic knocks at her door,” she wrote. 

Caterina expresses her gratitude to the parents at her children’s school who sent school supplies and toys.

Caterina also thanked @greysabc and @shondaland on Instagram, who sent clothing and supplies, and her sisters, who flew in to handle logistics so she could stay with her kids.

Caterina revealed that she wouldn't have survived the period without their unflinching support.

Caterina learned from the tragedy that the only things that matter are people and things that you love.

“The only thing that matters is community," she wrote. "We would not be here without it, and we are so grateful. Thank you.”
