Many are questioning whether or not he’s retiring from the industry. The 39-year-old Australian actor has no plans to retire soon, but he is losing momentum.
Hemsworth is working on four projects, an impending Avengers sequel in which he reprises his role as Thor and an unnamed biography about wrestling legend, Hulk Hogan.
According to Page Six, which quoted Hollywood insiders, the Australian actor's calendar is looking “awfully clear in the not-too-distant future.”
Nevertheless, after his current projects are completed, he said, “he doesn’t plan to take on many roles because of [learning about his high risk for] Alzheimer’s.”
When shooting his National Geographic and Disney+ docuseries, Limitless, Hemsworth realized he was at significant risk for Alzheimer's. The performer is "eight to ten times more likely" to get Alzheimer's disease.
Alzheimer's is the most common dementia and can affect memory, cognition, and communication. That is to say. It can affect Chris Hemsworth’s career choice greatly.
His main focus is his family and his career. He plans on completing his contracts, saying, “I’ve been completing the things I was already contracted to do. Go home and… have a good chunk of time off, and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife.”
Hemsworth discovered that he had two types of the ApoE4 trait, one from each parent, that raised his chance of acquiring the condition by eight to 10 times that of persons without both gene copies.
He stated, “They took all my blood work and did a bunch of tests, and the plan was to on-camera tell me all the results and then talk about how you can improve this and that.”
In November 2022, he informed VF that "there was an intensity to navigating" his illness that "triggered something in me to want to take some time off."
“My concern was I just didn’t want to manipulate it and over-dramatize it, and make it into some sort of hokey grab at empathy, or whatever, for entertainment,” Hemsworth said.
Chris continued by saying, “We all have this belief that we'll figure it out. Then all of a sudden some big indicators are actually pointing to this as the route which is going to happen, and the reality of it sinks in. Your own mortality.”
Over the last decade, he has grown into a global icon, portraying the God of Thunder in Marvel films. He is also engaged to actor Elsa Pataky, with whom he has three children.
Chris thanked the circumstances saying, “For me, the positive of it was like: Right, if I didn't know this information, I wouldn't have made the changes I made.”
“I just wasn't aware of any of it, so now I feel thankful that I have in my arsenal the sort of tools to best prepare myself and prevent things happening in that way, ” Chris stated.
