Reese Witherspoon And Jim Toth Decide To Call It Quits After Years Together

Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth had been facing problems "brewing" in their marriage long before the two officially filed for divorce.

The couple had been drifting away from each other for quite some time before they announced the "difficult decision" to go ahead with the divorce.

A source close to the couple revealed to US Weekly that Reese and Toth remain "the best of friends" and will keep co-parenting their son together despite the separation.

The two estranged spouses share a son, Tennessee, but Toth also fathered Reese's other two kids from her previous marriage, Ava and Deacon.

According to the source, the Legally Blonde actress "really does adore Jim" and "couldn't have asked for a better stepdad and father to their son."

The insider also shared that Reese "never wanted her marriage to end, but it's not a secret this has been brewing for some time."

With time, their marriage went from romantic to platonic, increasing the distance between the two and eventually causing them to call it quits.

While the pair did have a "very healthy relationship" and "a lot of great times together," but "like a lot of couples, they grew apart."

Reese and Toth shared the sad news by posting a lengthy statement on their respective Instagram accounts for their fans.

The message read, "We have some personal news to share. It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce."

They added, "We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together."

As for their next chapter in life, they stated, "Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate the next chapter."

The pair concluded by saying, "These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone's respect for our family's privacy at this time."

Another source revealed to People that "They really are the best of friends, and this is such an amicable decision."

The source further continued, "They are so committed to co-parenting together. They are invested in their whole family and making this as smooth as possible for everyone."

The pair, who got engaged in 2010 just a year after starting their dating phase, announced the divorce a few days before their 12th wedding anniversary.

The ex-couple tied the knot on a private Californian ranch in March 2011 and welcomed Tennessee, their only child, together in September 2012.

Before Toth, Reese was married to her Cruel Intentions co-star, Ryan Phillippe, for nine years and shares a son, Deacon, and a daughter, Ava, with him.

Talking about Toth in 2016, Reese revealed that "He's very patient and funny with the kids and encourages them to see the humor in life," concluding that he's the most supportive father figure to all her children.
