Lance Reddick Dead at 60: Ben Stiller, Wendell Pierce and More Stars Pay Tribute

Late actor Lance Reddick was found dead at his Los Angeles residence on the 17th of March, 2023. He was 60 at the time of his death. The news has been a huge blow to Hollywood, and many stars have expressed their grief on various social media platforms. 

What Was The Cause Of His Death?

As per the actor’s publicist, Lance died from natural causes.

Keanu acted alongside Lance in the John Wick series. His co-actor’s death has been especially saddening as he spent some great moments working with him, and became friends in the process. 

He took to E News!  and released a joint statement with the director of the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4, Chad Stahelski.

“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick. He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with,” the statement read.

The creator of The Wire, David Simon, also expressed his sorrow over the news. He took to Twitter to pay his tribute and praised the late actor's contributions to Hollywood.

TV Network, HBO, Pays Tribute To Reddick

Lance has worked on many projects led by HBO, so a tribute was clearly coming. The network voiced the team’s sorrows through its social media handles, paying a sweet tribute that recognized Lance’s 20-year-plus contributions.

Wendell Pierce Releases A Statement

Wendell tweeted: “A sudden unexpected sharp painful grief for our artistic family. An unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. Godspeed my friend. You made your mark here,” among other things.

Isiah Whitlock Jr’s Statement

Isiah also starred in The Wire, and was great friends with Lance. He wrote that he was shocked and saddened by Lance’s death, and wished his family strength.

In a heartfelt tweet, Ben paid a tribute to Lance, where he wished strength to his family, and peace to the departed soul.

The ‘Destiny’ Players Pay A Sweet Tribute

Lance voiced the beloved Titan Commander in the video game, Destiny. The character’s story was one of immense struggle and grief. So when the news of the actor’s death emerged, players of the game flocked to Tower to pay an online tribute. It was a sweet moment, and players were even seen giving each other e-hugs. 

 

Stephanie Reddick Makes A Heart-Rending Tribute

Lance’s wife Stephanie made a tear-jerking post on Instagram, where she posted a black-and-white portrait of her husband. Her caption received a lot of love and consolation from the fans. She said that Lance had been taken too soon from this world.

Lance’s Legacy

The 60-year-old late actor starred in many well-faring projects. Other than John Wick and The Wire, he has also starred in one series of the Resident Evil franchise, as well as Percy Jackson He also appeared in the recently ended series Bosch. Lance told The Guardian that he didn’t expect it to become such a phenomenon. 

His Upcoming Projects

Lance will appear in the upcoming White Men Can’t Jump, as well as Netflix’s biopic of the former congresswoman, Shirley Chisholm. Other than that, he will also be a part of the fourth chapter of John Wick.

Lance’s Family

Apart from his wife, Lance has left behind his two children, Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick.

Reddick earned a degree in classical music at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York. He then went to The School of Drama at Yale.

Two years prior to Lance’s death, his The Wire co-actor, Michael K. Williams, died due to an overdose. The death was a huge blow to Lance, as well as his other teammates at the time. 

Lance’s Music Career

The actor would also release music on the side. His formal music education as well as natural talent meant that he would often be involved in musical projects. He released an album titled Contemplations and Remembrances in 2007.
