Nicole Kidman Shares The Spotlight At Oscars 2023 With 'Friend's Son'

At the 95th Academy Awards on March 12, 2023, Nicole showed up on the red carpet with her friend's son and promising Australian young actor, Sam Rechner.

The 21-year-old youngster recently made his big-screen debut, starring in Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans. 

In the coming-of-age drama, which lost the Best Picture category to Everything Everywhere All at Once, Sam portrayed Logan, a high school bully.

As the 55-year-old actress walked the champagne-colored carpet with her husband, Keith Urban, she was spotted holding hands with Sam, which raised many eyebrows among curious reporters.

Nicole then told Canadian news outlet eTalk about the young man by her side. In her words, "This is Sam, who is the son of my best friend since we were four, and he's in The Fabelmans."

As expected, Sam was grateful for the chance to attend the prestigious event, noting that it was amazing to share the moment with Nicole, who had been a good family friend for a long time.

Later during the awards, while speaking to Sunrise reporter Sonia Kruger, the Aquaman star praised her friend's son for earning his way to the Oscars carpet.

Sam may not be a big name in the entertainment industry yet, but he is related to some of the most recognized individuals in show business.

For example, the young actor is the nephew of Australian television journalists and power couple Peter Overton and Jessica Rowe, who have been married since 2004.

Recently, Sam shared that his uncle and aunt had been instrumental in guiding him toward his aspirations in the entertainment industry.

The young man explained that whenever it concerned chasing his dreams and knowing what to do, Peter and Jessica were the first people he turned to for advice.

Sam also spoke highly of Peter's influence on his work ethic, revealing the journalist had been his biggest supporter. According to Sam, they both had a similar approach to self-improvement.

Sam also mentioned that he and Peter were similar in being self-critical, which motivated them to keep striving and working hard.

Sam joins an impressive cast for The Fabelmans, including Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Gabriel LaBelle, David Lynch, Julia Butters, and Seth Rogan.

The drama tells the story of young Sammy Fabelman, who falls in love with movies after his parents take him to see The Greatest Show on Earth.

After seeing the movie, Sammy arms himself with a camera and begins to make his own films at home, much to the delight of his supportive mother.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2022, and is dedicated to the director Steven Spielberg's late real-life parents, Leah Adler, and Arnold Spielberg.

Besides The Fabelmans, Sam only has one other acting credit in the film Ruby's Choice, which had its world premiere on February 22, 2022, at the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace.

Although Sam's character, Jack, wasn't the main character, it showcased how much of an amazing actor he is. Hopefully, in the coming years, Sam will amass immense fame and fortune.
