Butler spoke about his acclaimed character and revealed that he had spent two years immersing himself in the role for the movie and didn't even see his family this whole time.

Speaking to Elle Australia, he revealed that getting rid of Elvis' famed Southern twang has been hard for him, stating that the reason for his inability to shift back is the new "muscular habits" he developed while training for the role.

He further stated, "Your mouth can change. It’s pretty amazing. I know that I’m constantly changing. Check-in with me in 20 years when I’ve played a lot of roles. Who knows what I’ll sound like."

Director Baz Luhrmann spoke to The Post about Butler's dedication: "He was in character 24/7, seven days a week for two years."
