Does Film Star Brendan Fraser Owe His Looks To Good Genes Or A Good Doctor?

Fans have been curious about the secret recipe Brendan Fraser uses that makes him look breathtaking even at the age of 54! 

In the 1992 film School Ties, where he starred with Matt Damon and Chris O'Donnell, he had his big break. The Mummy franchise would later turn him into a legitimate action star, starting in 1999.

Yet Fraser vanished without a trace in the middle of the 2000s. Twenty years later, on December 9, 2022, Darren Aronofsky's newest movie The Whale, which hit theaters, brought him back to Hollywood. The movie has received a lot of hype ahead of the awards season, especially for Fraser's portrayal of the main character, Charlie.

The 49-year-old actor reminisced on those times in a GQ interview, claiming that it was a time in his life when he would accept any acting position that came his way.

He was once caught saying, “I feel a lot more comfortable in my skin than I once was 20 years ago, but I don’t know a single actor alive who isn’t just grateful to have a job, so I hope I never lose sight of that.”

During the prime of his acting career, Brendan Fraser was renowned for his physically demanding performances in films like The Mummy and George of the Jungle. Yet his physique suffered greatly as a result of those action-packed flicks.

His injuries need many operations, among them is a laminectomy---a back operation to release pressure from the spine or nerves. Fraser claimed that because "the lumbar didn't take," they had to try again a year later.

In addition, he underwent more back surgeries to join squeezed spinal pads, a partial knee restoration, voice cord surgery, and other treatments. Fraser claimed that his time in and out of the hospital effectively spanned seven years.

Hollywood allegedly banned Fraser after he accused Philip Berk, the former head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), of sexually abusing him.

Brendan Fraser said that the event caused him to feel "ill... like a little kid... like there was a ball in my throat," adding that he felt "depressed" as well as "reclusive."

Fraser reported, “I changed houses; I went through a divorce. Some kids were born. I mean, they were born, but they’re growing up. I was going through things that mold and shape you in ways that you’re not ready for until you go through them.”

Brendan Fraser has said that not getting the part of Superman in Superman Returns had a significant negative impact on him and made him feel like he had "failed" or "didn't measure up."

As his next film, The Whale debuted at the Venice Film Festival, Brendan Fraser recently became the talk of the town. The film received a six-minute applause, and video footage showed Fraser crying a little as the crowd applauded for him and the film.

While accepting the award, Brendan stated, "Wow, this is new for me because normally I am the guy at the podium who hands these things out," Fraser said. "I think that the last time I waited to hear my name called out loud to receive an award was in grade 4 and it was from the peewee bowling league."

On January 25, the actor received his first Oscar nomination for his work in The Whale when he was selected as one of the top five contenders.

Even if Brendan Fraser is in the midst of a comeback, he would still be interested in playing one of his previous parts. Fraser, who played Rick O'Connell in The Mummy, said he is still prepared to face the undead.

In the family movie George of the Jungle, which also starred Thomas Haden Church and Leslie Mann, Fraser played the lead role. Fraser was Mann's "work crush" during filming, according to Mann, who at the time had begun a marriage with husband Judd Apatow.

The Extraordinary Measures actor requested a lower monthly alimony payment from the court, arguing that he was no longer able to make the $50,000 installments. Smith, for her part, claimed that some of her ex’s holdings were being concealed.
