Camila Alves was a passenger on the Lufthansa flight that grabbed headlines this week after it hit severe turbulence on Wednesday, sending seven people to the hospital.

The 41-year-old model and wife of Matthey McConaughey came out unscathed and shared the terrifying experience on Instagram.

Her Video

Alves posted a short clip on Thursday showing the cabin of Lufthansa Flight 469 with clutter strewn all over the floor.

What It Felt Like On Board

In the caption, she detailed the incident, saying, “I was told plane dropped almost 4000 feet, 7 people went to the hospital. Everything was flying everywhere.”

'Plane Was A CHAOS'

“To respect the privacy of those around me that’s all I am showing but the plane was a CHAOS. And the turbulence keep on coming [sic],” she added.

There Were No Fatalities, Though

To make sure her followers knew which flight she was talking about, she wrote, “The @lufthansa flight you are seeing on the news today!!!! Yes…that one,” before saying everyone on board came out safe.

Flight Details

The Airbus A330 was en route from Austin, Texas to Frankfurt, Germany.

Emergency Landing

Turbulence struck at 37,000 feet altitude over Tennessee, and the flight was diverted to Dulles International Airport in Virginia where it made an emergency landing at 9:10 p.m.

Turbulence Hit During Dinner

There were reports from other passengers describing how strong the turbulence was, which struck as dinner was being served.

Objects Were Flying Everywhere

They spoke about experiencing several seconds of freefall and how dinner plates, glasses, bags, and even a baby were being tossed all over the place. Afterwards, the cabin was a mess.

The Aftermath

When things calmed down, flight attendants walked around to check on passengers, and one woman was carried to the front of the plane with injuries.

Seven People Were Hospitalized

Several other passengers were injured as well. They were reportedly those who didn’t have their seatbelts on as the turbulence hit very quickly and without warning.

Alves, who lived in Austin and was traveling with her husband, then checked into a hotel in the area. She gave a shoutout to the staff in her post.

Fortunately, the rest of the eventful day went by peacefully, and she and McConaughey even managed to have a date night of sorts.

How The Day Ended

“@officiallymcconaughey and I made it to the bar with 1 minute before closing…slept well, getting on new flight today, To the journey I continue…” she concluded her post.

The model-slash-entrepreneur later gave an update via an Instagram Story saying she’d gotten on the rescheduled flight and the pilot had announced that they’d be experiencing a – wait for it – 45-minute turbulence.

Reached Her Destination

She ultimately reached her destination without further incident, though, and she shared a selfie and another update from there.

'Turbulent Days'

By then, she’d been traveling for two full days – “turbulent days,” she called them – and squeezed in a hectic day at her European destination as well.

As she had her first meal of the day at midnight (“there was no break before,” she said), she reflected on the frightening experience she just had.
