Richard Gere Hospitalized With Pneumonia: Wife Alejandra Shares Details

Gere was vacationing in his home in Nuevo Vallarta with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their kids. But, after suffering a few days with a cough and progressively feeling worse during the trip, he went to the hospital.

They explained he had a lung infection and spent one night in the hospital. According to TMZ, as he was feeling better the next day, he was dismissed and left with prescribed antibiotics. Meanwhile, his family was ill for three weeks.

Silva and their eldest son, Alexander, had sinusitis and an ear infection, while the youngest also suffered from pneumonia.

While fans were concerned about his health, Alejandra managed to post a few updates on her Instagram about their recovery. The first picture included her with their children, saying they felt much better.

In the second post, she acknowledged everyone's concerns about Richard's health and included him in the picture. She added that "the worst has already passed" and he felt much better.

In the third post, she said that they were almost back to normal. She also clarified that they were already feeling bad since they left their home in New York and added a thank you to the hospital and the doctor who took care of them for their attention.

She finished the caption with a joke, saying that the second picture added to the post, a portrait of a young topless Richard Gere, was his request to show everyone he was feeling better.

Silva made a last post two days ago, where she could be seen with Gere and many friends celebrating her 40th birthday in Mexico. She said she had a fantastic birthday and added a post data at the end of the caption.

"Ps: as you can see we are all mostly recovered...," Silva said. Of course, they seemed very happy in the pictures.

Alejandra, a Spanish publicist, has been with Gere since 2015, while he was in the mids of his divorce from actress Carey Lowell. Richard and Carey have been together since 2002 but officially divorced in 2016.

Gere and Lowell had a son together, 23-year-old Homer, while Silva has a nine-year-old, Albert, from her previous marriage with magnate Govind Friedland.

Richard and Alejandra married in 2018 in a ceremony on his ranch in upstate New York. Since then, they have had their two sons, Alexander and James, who are four and two years old, respectively.

Gere and Silva were long-time friends before confirming their relationship. However, they were first linked together as a couple in 2015 after being spotted on a romantic vacation in Sicily.

Then, they continued their relationship privately until they tied the knot in a secret ceremony in 2018. A year later, they were expecting their first child together.

Silva and Gere have a 33-year-old gap. Still, she said meeting him was like finding meaning in her life. "I was a little lost, without light, and knowing him gave meaning to my life. It was feeling that someone was reaching out and showing me my true path," she said to US Weekly.

On the other hand, Crawford stated that their 17-year-old gap doomed their relationship and led to their split. Gere explained that Silva gives him the quiet and happy life he's always wanted.

Alejandra also said that despite their age differences, Richard plans to be around for a long time, "He has promised me at least 20 good years!" she said since Gere wants to see their children grow up.

According to his wife, Richard is very active, always working out, and has a lot of energy. However, she jokingly said he was not human since she couldn't keep up his pace.

Richard Gere is a vegan, while Alejandra enjoys making healthy food. At the same time, he practices weight-lifting to fight sarcopenia due to his age.
