While on vacation with his family close to Nuevo Vallarta in Mexico, Richard Gere was hospitalized overnight with pneumonia on Saturday.

According to TMZ, the 73-year-old actor became ill while traveling with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their kids to honor her 40th birthday.

He Had A Cough Before Leaving For Vacation

According to the outlet, Gere got a bad cough before leaving for their vacation, which worsened while they were in Mexico.

He Was Hospitalized

The actor from Officer And A Gentleman reportedly spent one night in the hospital getting treatment for his illness.

Richard's Recovery Improved

According to the outlet's sources, Gere was later released from the hospital, and his health improved. He reportedly received antibiotics to continue treatment while battling the infection outside of the hospital.

The Couple Have Two Kids

Gere married Silva, a Spanish publicist on his expansive ranch in upstate New York. Since then, Alexander, 4, and a son, whose name has not been released, age 2, have been born to the couple.

Silva Claimed They Were All Sick

During the couple's recent trip to Mexico, Silva revealed that all four had recently been sick.

She wrote on Instagram:
