According to TMZ, the 73-year-old actor became ill while traveling with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their kids to honor her 40th birthday.
According to the outlet, Gere got a bad cough before leaving for their vacation, which worsened while they were in Mexico.
The actor from Officer And A Gentleman reportedly spent one night in the hospital getting treatment for his illness.
According to the outlet's sources, Gere was later released from the hospital, and his health improved. He reportedly received antibiotics to continue treatment while battling the infection outside of the hospital.
Gere married Silva, a Spanish publicist on his expansive ranch in upstate New York. Since then, Alexander, 4, and a son, whose name has not been released, age 2, have been born to the couple.
During the couple's recent trip to Mexico, Silva revealed that all four had recently been sick.
She wrote on Instagram:
"Thank you all for the birthday wishes.. after almost 3 weeks of everyone being sick in our family today finally I feel much better! Thank you for all the love [heart] I give it all back to you!"
Before dating Silva, Gere was married to Bond girl Carey Lowell and 1990s Supermodel Cindy Crawford.
Homer, the 23-year-old son of Gere and Lowell, who were married from 2002 to 2016, is named after the father of the Pretty Woman actress.
When Gere and Silva started dating in 2015, they were both going through divorces from their previous partners.
Alejandra, who was born in the Galicia region of northwest Spain, is the mother of a seven-year-old boy named Albert, who she shares with her ex, Govind Friedland.
Publicist and activist Silva previously talked about her relationship with the Pretty Woman star to HOLA!
“I was a little lost, without light, and knowing him gave meaning to my life,” she said. “It was feeling that someone was reaching out and showing me my true path.”
Alejandra and the Time Out of Mind actor, who has known her family for 15 years, share a love of philanthropy.
"Having his support makes me so happy," Alejandra said.
Alejandro is also intrigued by the fervent Buddhist faith.
“I had the honor of meeting the Dalai Lama and I don’t have words to describe the experience. I can only say that being next to him gave me an incredible peace. It was magical.”
she revealed to Hola.
When Silva was asked if love is important to her, she responded;
“Who isn’t it important to? I think that the whole world deserves to live with love, in all its meanings.. So, yes, love is fundamental in my life.”
When Alejandra and Richard met in 2014 while Alejandra was working as a hotel manager in Italy, their relationship quickly blossomed.
The couple was reintroduced by a mutual friend (Richard is rumored to have been a family friend of Alejandra's family when she was younger), and it was said that they connected right away. In April 2018, the couple got hitched.
Gere recently appeared in the 2023 romantic comedy "Maybe I Do," released last month, alongside Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, and Emma Roberts.
The story revolves around Roberts and Bracey's characters, Michelle and Allen, who, following a recent argument, decide to move toward marriage and host both of their parents for dinner.
The invitation, however, takes a dramatic turn when it is revealed in the trailer that the two sets of parents, as portrayed by Diane Keaton, Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, and William H. Macy, are already acquainted thanks to prior relationships.
The parents must guide the young couple as they try to keep their secrets from one another as the night begins to go south.
