Kate Hudson reminisced on her experience marrying at a young age and the lessons she learned from it.
The 43-year-old Glass Onion actress was only 21 when she tied the knot with Black Crowes frontman, Chris Robinson, in 2000. Her decision raised a lot of eyebrows at the time, but she now says she has no regrets.
Hudson made an appearance on The World’s First Podcast, where she reflected on her seven-year marriage to the musician.
She justified her decision to tie the knot at 21 telling hosts Erin and Sara Foster, “I just jump into the deep end of everything I do. People thought it was impulsive, but I was just like: ‘You know what? I’m just going to dive right into this.’”
The Fabletics founder added, “I’m not gonna second guess it. I’m in love with him. I’m not gonna pretend like, oh, we should wait. I’m madly in love, and I want to marry him, and so I just didn’t think twice.”
The decision shocked people at the time for several reasons. Aside from her age, he was also nearly 13 years older, and the relationship moved so quickly. They had their first date, got engaged, and walked down the aisle within a matter of months.
“I went to New York and I met Chris. And I came home, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m marrying this guy,’” she recalled.
According to reports at that time, they moved in together four days after they first met in May 2000. By October that year, he’d given her a diamond engagement ring. And two months later, they made it official. They share one son together, 19-year-old Ryder.
Although the union ended in divorce in 2007, she praised her ex-husband for showing her “what it felt like to be unconditionally loved.”
She said that Robinson, now 56, “opened that floodgate” for her, and she never regretted marrying him even if the relationship got very “complicated” at one point.
Hudson later had relationships with Muse frontman, Matt Bellamy, and musician, Danny Fujikawa. She has two other children – Bingham Bellamy, 11, and Rani Fujikawa, 4.
When asked whether she still had the same daring approach to relationships, she said, “I’m kind of still like that, except with a little more wisdom under my belt.”
