Eyewitnesses at the Ghaziabad District Court in Uttar Pradesh state revealed that a spotted leopard disrupted the peace in the area after launching an attack inside the court. Reports from Jam Press showed that the big cat was first spotted under the stairway of the building. When it spotted people walking around, it ran from its hiding place and made its way into the courthouse.

It Attacked People Inside The Court

By the time, the leopard got into the courthouse, chaos broke loose as people scampered and ran for their lives. However, it mauled several people including a police officer, a boot polisher, and several lawyers. The boot polisher reportedly sustained the most injuries as his condition was described as "serious." Four lawyers were attacked and one was severely injured due to how he tried combatting the animal with a shovel and a stick.

An ambulance was said to have quickly arrived at the scene, including a 12-person team from the local forest department to capture the leopard. While the injured persons were immediately attended to, the capture crew was able to take the animal in. The leopard itself sustained several injuries that were attended to by the department's veterinarians.

What Will Become Of The Leopard?

Officials handling the animal revealed that once the leopard gets enough treatment, it will be released into a settlement away from human presence. While the terrifying experience passed, the moment was caught on camera showing the leopard with blood on its mouth as it snarled at the scared people inside the courthouse.

This is not the first time a leopard attack was recorded in India. Last December, another leopard made headlines for charging at several people in a northeastern Indian town. The animal was said to have appeared from nowhere as it attacked at least 15 people.

Caught On Camera

The hair-raising incident was caught on camera, and in one clip, the leopard could be seen charging at a vehicle on the road and ripping part of its rim before running off. Some of those attacked by the wild animal included a mom, her daughter, and a forest guard. According to Ranjit Konwar, a divisional forest officer in Johrat, some people had a close shave with the animal because it made its way into the courtyard. He added that the victims were bitten and needed urgent medical attention.

There Was A Two-day Search

After causing mayhem in the town, the leopard ran off and it took two days of an intense search for officers to find it. It was tranquilized on sight leading to the end of the search. According to reports, the animal was to undergo further examination before being set free in the Kaziranga National Park.

Experts On Leopard Attack

The forest officers revealed that leopards do not typically attack humans without being threatened. Although the cause of the animal's attack was undetermined, it was assumed that the animal escaped from the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food.

Per NY Post, India has recorded frequent big cat attacks in recent times. This was attributed to the growing population and the need for housing which leads many to encroach on big forests where these wild cats live.

A Mountain Lion Attack In California

Attacks by wildlife have been recorded in other locations besides India. Earlier in February, news from California showed that a five-year-old boy was viciously attacked by a mountain lion as he was hiking. The lion's attack was said to have been unprovoked. The boy who was identified as Jack by his relative sustained life-threatening injuries, but narrowly escaped being killed when his mom rushed him to the hospital. The attack was recorded in San Mateo County.

Little Jack was said to have been on a hiking expenditure with his mom and grandfather near their farm. During their little family gathering, the mountain lion pounced on the young boy out of the blue and proceeded to maul his face. His mom wasted no time as her instincts kicked in. She was said to have fought the animal until it ran off.

Wild Life Services Were Informed

After the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was informed some officers immediately arrived on the scene. They made it known that the mountain lion could have been a cub. In a GoFundMe set up for Jack, his aunt, Anne Wagner, rushed about how his mom handled the horrifying incident. She wrote, "That mountain lion picked the wrong kid and mama to mess with.”

Jack was taken to the hospital and reports showed that he was, thankfully, conscious. He suffered puncture wounds and lacerations mostly on his face. He also had a fracture close to one eye. Wagner explained, "He is covered in cuts, bruises, and scratches but his spirit remains intact.”

The Next Move

Fish and Wildlife officials planned to collect DNA samples from Jack's clothing in an attempt to track down the mountain lion. If the animal is captured, it will be removed from the wild. According to the department, mountain lion attacks are rare, and only about 20 cases have been confirmed in California for over a century.
