Austin Recounts His First Meeting With Lisa

Austin recently shared some touching memories about his immediate bond with Lisa. During a Monday appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor spoke candidly about his easy connection with the late singer when they first met.

Austin Had Never Had An Instant Connection With Anyone Before Then 

Austin confessed to Jimmy in a somber tone that he and Lisa first crossed paths while filming the biopic Elvis in Graceland. Before that meeting, Austin said he had never met someone and felt an immediate depth of relationship with them.

However, there was something different about Lisa. According to the actor, the entertainment icon had nothing to prove and wouldn't open up to everybody, but she easily opened up to him.

Austin also recalled the tour he enjoyed during that first meeting. He explained that Lisa took him around the iconic Graceland and brought him to see her father, Elvis Presley's slippers and actual bedroom.

Austin Recounts His Visit To Elvis Presley's Bedroom 

The actor confessed that he got goosebumps because Elvis's bedroom was a place people hardly saw. Recalling the exact way it happened, Austin said Lisa told him, "I want to show you something," before taking him to the historic place.

Austin Will Never Forget The Experience 

Austin said Elvis was just "dad" and not the big superstar everyone knew him as. For Austin, it was an experience of a lifetime, and the stories he heard from Lisa in the bedroom were those he would treasure forever.

Austin also spoke about the emotional contrast of having to promote the movie — for which he recently received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor — while dealing with Lisa's death.

The movie star noted that it was weird because it was bittersweet. He said many great things were happening, and he felt devastated for Lisa's family because the singer could not witness the amazing things and celebrate with them.

However, Austin took solace in the fact that he was with Lisa at the Golden Globes, where he won the Best Actor in a Drama award for his performance in the Baz Luhrmann movie. For him, it was a night he would never forget for the rest of his life.
