Brendan Fraser's rise to stardom was aided by the film The Mummy, so it's natural that he is now honoring his roots after shocking fans on Friday night by interrupting a showing of the 1999 release. What an iconic moment that would've been!

The 54-year-old actor, whose performance in The Whale has him heavily favored for awards season triumph, showed up at the theater for the special appearance dressed as his part.
"I am proud to appear before you tonight," he said as he walked out onto the platform to engage the crowd.
As Brendan entered the theater, the audience erupted in jubilant applause.
However, when Fraser told the audience they were filming The Mummy, they weren't sure how the movie would turn out because he was dressed like his movie character Rick O'Connell in a leather jacket, khakis, and boots.
"We had no idea what kind of movie we were making when we shot this," he said. "We didn't know if it was a drama or a comedy or a straight-ahead action, romance, horror picture … all the above?"
"We had no idea until it tested in front of British audiences," he added, as the audience let out a collective chuckle. "Thank you for that."
Fraser concluded by saying he won't take any more of their time while he told them to enjoy their night, and The Mummy star subtly promoted his new movie, "check out The Whale on February 23rd," he said after briefly discussing the plot.
He was a well-known co-star of Rachel Weisz in the films The Mummy, The Mummy Returns (2001), and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008). The actor rose to international recognition thanks to his performance in The Mummy trilogy, which aired in 2008.
No doubt, Fraser has several reasons to smile right now. The actor received his first Oscar nomination on Tuesday for his function in the film The Whale, which will be released in the UK on February 3.
The actor received recognition for his work in The Whale when he was selected as one of the five contenders for Best Actor. Additionally, the drama received nominations for Best Makeup & Hairstyling for the team that turned Fraser into his 600-pound character, Charlie, and Best Supporting Actress for co-star Hong Chau.
It is quite a career comeback for the celebrity, who battled depression and withdrew from the public eye after accusing someone of sexual assault in 2003 and was frequently admitted to the hospital for medical problems.
Brendan said earlier this month that he would not be opposed to returning to the franchise following the huge return.
In addition, he recently disparaged Tom Cruise's October revival of the series. The actor complained that the 2017 box office dud "lacked the fun" of The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001), and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008).
Brendan admitted to Variety,
"It is hard to make that movie. The ingredient that we had going for our Mummy, which I didn't see in the new one, was fun."
