The reality television show The Simple Life broadcast for five seasons between 2003 and 2007, was a staple of 2000s popular culture. The television show followed affluent best friends Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie as they forwent all of their privileges and fame to live among the working class.
Many of their one-liners contributed to Paris and Nicole's "dumb blonde" identities.
In 2020, 13 years after The Simple Life was canceled, Paris acknowledged that she had intentionally created a character for the program and that, despite what people might think, she isn't an "airhead" but rather "incredibly excellent at pretending to be one."
The celebrity claimed that to appear more "stupid," she even altered her normal voice when speaking in front of the camera.
In a guest appearance on the Australian morning show Sunrise, Paris asserted that she had been acting the entire time they had been filming and that it was time to show the world the smart Paris and not some stupid blonde.

The two women could be seen working together to build a paddling pool and assist with yardwork in the scenario. James responds, "Well when you got dumb and dumber out here..." about Paris and Nicole, when one man, Jimmy, inquires whether the work will be completed that day.
When Nicole hears this, she rushes over to James and confronts him, threatening to "batter" his face if he ever calls Paris or her "dumb."
The celebrity was praised for standing up for herself and her friend after the incident recently went viral on TikTok. The video has had over a million plays, and some users, like Paris Hilton, have reacted to the now-viral post. Some of the reaction includes;
