The Oscar board announced on Tuesday that the Barbadian native had earned an entry for a possible Oscar award win in the Best Original Song category for her soulful rendition of Lift Me Up from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever movie.
The song, which is Rihanna's first project after a six-year hiatus, has contributions from director Ryan Coogler, award-winning composer Ludwig Goransson, and Nigerian award-winning singer Tems.
The 34-year-old has seven Grammy awards to her name, and this is her first Oscar nomination.
