The project titled Back to Black centers around the life and times of late singer Amy Winehouse and is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, who also directed Nowhere Boy and 50 Shades of Grey and he was also a close friend of Winehouse.

While it's only been a week since the biopic began filming, controversies are already becoming the order of the day for the project. Over the weekend, controversial pictures of Marisa Abela and Eddie Marsan, who played the role of Amy and her father, Mitch Winehouse, respectively, appeared on Twitter.

The scene from the set showed Jack O'Connell as Blake Fielder-Civil, Amy's ex-husband, getting arrested while police held back a distraught Marisa (Amy Winehouse) as the press hounded her for pictures.

The Backstory

The scene described is significant in the biopic because Blake was reportedly arrested in Amy's presence for playing a role in a bar owner assault and attempting to cover it up with a bribe.

A Different Reaction In Real Life

However, the Rehab star's reaction to her husband's arrest at that time did not involve any serious emotional outburst in front of the media or her being held back by the police as depicted on the set. The Mirror also reported that the arrest happened in her apartment at that time, which left Amy distressed.

Many negative reactions have trailed the release of those pictures, including viral tweets outrightly condemning the insult on Winehouse's legacy, that which is now being reduced to fiction and mere tantrums.

Amy's dad Mitch Winehouse has also come under heavy criticism for his role in the singer's life, describing him as an opportunist who enabled his daughter's self-destructive habits, which led to her untimely death, especially after the release of Asif Kapadia's 2015 documentary Amy.

This New Project Has Mitch's Hands All Over It

While this isn't the first time Amy's life has been put on the screen or discussed, this new project is fully backed by Mitch Winehouse, who also owns half of her estate, meaning he would have to approve the use of her music.
