Meghan Markle is making some lofty predictions about Prince Harry.
Following her husband’s success with his memoir Spare, which has become the fastest-selling nonfiction book of all time, the 41-year-old actress-turned-royal thinks he’ll be adding another accolade to the list at next year’s awards season.
A source from the entertainment industry told Daily Mail that Markle is sure Harry is a “shoo-in” for the Grammy Best Spoken Word Album (Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording) award. Spare has an audiobook version that the Duke narrates.
“He's a natural storyteller, has a soothing voice and even sings on the audio version,” the insider said, referring to the part where Harry, 38, performs part of Elton John’s Your Song.
“It was Harry's decision to sing Elton John's song in the audiobook,” the source added. “Who knew he could sing? Meghan thinks he's up there with President Obama, who won the same award a few years back.”
In Spare, he revealed that he asked the singer to perform Candle in the Wind at the 2007 benefit, Concert for Diana. However, John refused due to the song’s morbid theme (he famously sang Candle in the Wind during Diana’s funeral) and chose Your Song instead.
The insider was effusive in their praise for the Duke of Sussex, saying that “Hollywood loves him” and he has “the gift of gab,” “a fun sense of humor,” and “star power.”
Markle is reportedly rooting for her husband to pick up the award at the 2024 Grammys. This year’s ceremony is scheduled for February 5 and the nominees in the category are Viola Davis, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jamie Foxx, Mel Brooks, and Questlove.
The source also hinted that Harry might make an appearance at the 2023 Academy Awards in March “as a possible presenter.”
Markle may be 100 percent supportive of her husband when it comes to his memoir, but she’d been notably absent from his side as he promoted the book.
Some sources suggested that she didn’t want to grab the spotlight from him by getting involved, as this was his project. However, others speculated that the Duchess might be having “gentle concerns” about the tell-all.
