The icon died at 72 following a long battle with an aggressive form of cancer, leaving his family and friends heartbroken. Here are the details of the story.

Jim Dies

On January 17, 2023, Jim's family released a statement announcing the icon's demise. In the note, they revealed the liberal senator died the day before, after a rapid decline in his health after the Christmas celebrations.

Jim Was A Man With Excellent Qualities

The family members went on to serenade Jim with the best words. They described him as many things, including a soldier, an author, a pilot, a volunteer firefighter, and a senator. Above all, Jim was an adored husband, brother, father, and grandfather.

Next, the family members noted that the loss was immeasurable. Still, they took consolation in the memories of the full life Jim courageously lived, devoted to family and in service of the country he loved. Jim is survived by his wife, Anne, four children, and five grandchildren.

Before his demise, Jim served in the army as a major general for 40 years until he retired in 2008. Following his retirement, the legend opted to be involved in something different — politics. He joined politics in 2012 and did his best until his cancer diagnosis.

In April 2021, Jim took a leave of absence to begin chemotherapy. About a year later, he returned to parliament and was re-elected for a six-year term in the 2022 elections. Unfortunately, he could only serve for almost a year before he died.
