The gasket is a very crucial part of your washing machine. It's the big barrier around the machine door that helps hold back water from flooding out during use, despite the rigorous occasional shakes from the washing machine.

The engineer stressed the importance of using a rag or old soft napkin to clean out any leftover water in the gasket after you round up your laundry in order to keep it in a good shape.

When your machine is currently not in use, Renae suggests you keep it open. Closing your machine can give mildew and fungus the perfect environment to survive. If you plan to close it eventually, make sure to wait for a few hours so the moisture in the drum can escape.

Rule Number Three

The third golden rule, and the most important according to Renae is to remove the detergent tray from the machine and leave it out to dry after laundry. This is important to prevent build up of germs in the gasket as it has tiny tubes that drops some water in the gasket.

For people who don't know, the detergent tray has a button on it that helps to release the tray, and allow you clean all the unwanted water out, thereby protecting your gasket.

Are you wondering why your clothes never come out clean? According to Renae, you've been overloading them with too much water which prevents friction that basically scrubs your clothes clean.

When it comes to high efficiency washing machine and everyday clothes (that don't get so dirty), Renae advised to use just 2 tablespoons of laundry detergent, failure to do that can cause your clothes to come out with stains due to series of build up from too much detergent that the machine don't end up using.
