Eggs are a lot harder to cook and bake with than most people give them credit for. Sure, you kind of can’t go wrong with a scrambled or fried egg. But poaching, boiling, and even just trying to separate the yolks from the whites can be a surprising challenge.
Luckily, the internet is full of lifehacks that will make those kinds of things at least a little bit easier. A TikTok user who goes by That40yearguy , for instance, shared a hack in a now-viral video, showing us how to easily separate egg yolks.

It starts out with a woman demonstrating how to pick up an egg yolk after rubbing her fingers with a little garlic.
The TikTok User Reacts To The Hack.
“So you’re telling me for 40 years of baking cakes, trying to figure out how to separate the yolk from the white, I could’ve been doing this?” he asks, incredibly skeptical.
But He Tries The Hack Out Anyway.
The user pans his camera down to a cutting board that contains a bowl with an egg yolk/white in it, and a peeled clove of garlic next to it. He begins to rub his fingers on the clove before heading to the egg.
Amazingly, It Works!
The user picks up the egg yolk with very little effort. He then brings it up to his face, joking and pretending that he’s going to eat it whole.
The video, which was posted in late December, went viral in a matter of days. It already has an amazing 37.7 million views, as well as three million likes and thousands of comments.
Users Everywhere Reacted To The TikTok.
According to some users, this isn’t the only garlic hack around. Many were amazed by how much a single clove of garlic can do.
Others Weren’t Huge Fans Of The Hack.
There were many who felt that peeling the garlic clove was more effort than it was worth in this case. Others were worried that the taste of the garlic would transfer to the cake, though many pointed out that there probably wasn’t enough contact with garlic for that to happen.

Not only was the TikTok surprisingly informative, but it was also pretty funny. Some even joked about how feeding chickens garlic might result in yolks and whites being separated before the eggs are even laid.
