Buffalo Bills' Damar Hamlin Collapses on Field with Cardiac Arrest During Bengals Game

Damar Hamlin, safety for the Buffalo Bills went into cardiac arrest following a play during last night's football game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

After collapsing on the field, medical personnel rushed to Hamlin to administer CPR for 10 minutes, as well as give the player oxygen. He was then taken off the field and brought to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center via ambulance.

The Team Confirmed Hamlin's Status Via Twitter.

The Buffalo Bills' official Twitter account confirmed that "Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals."

Hamlin Is Currently In Critical Condition.

"His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment," the statement continues.

Hamlin Suffered The Injury Early On In The Game.

PEOPLE reports that Hamlin had tackled Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins early on in the first quarter. He got up afterward but quickly collapsed on the field. The game halted as Hamlin received CPR.

He Was Then Rushed To Hospital Alongside His Parents.

A rep for Hamlin, Jordon Rooney, provided an update later in the evening of the 2nd. At that time, his vitals had returned to normal and he was undergoing tests while unconscious.

The Game Was Postponed Following Hamlin's Injury.

With players on both sides showing concern for Hamlin, the NFL decided to postpone the game. In an official statement on the League's website, they wrote, "Tonight’s Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game has been postponed after Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapsed, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced."

The NFL Continued By Providing The Most Up-To-Date Information At The Time.

They also confirmed that Hamlin received medical attention, before stating, "Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available."

At 24 Years Old, Hamlin Had Been Playing For The Buffalo Bills Since 2021.

The Pennsylvania native played for the University of Pittsburgh, where he led his college team with 67 tackles and seven pass breakups.

He Was Selected During The Sixth Draft Round In 2021.

He Began Starting For The Bills This Season.

Safety Micah Hyde suffered a neck injury early on in the season, and Hamlin began to take over for him from there.

At The Time Of Hamlin's Injury, Other Players Were Visibly Distressed.

Players from both the Bengals and the Bills bowed their heads while awaiting updates on the field. They also kneeled around Hamlin as he received medical attention.

Later, Players Expressed Their Well-Wishes On Social Media.

Players such as Bengals' Tee Higgins took to Twitter to express their hopes and prayers that Hamlin would recover well.

"Please pray for our brother," Bills' quarterback Josh Allen posted to Twitter late last night.

On Christmas Day, Hamlin posted a video to his Instagram, showing all the kids who'd received gifts.
