Justin Bieber may be happy and healthy in 2022, but his well-being wasn't always as steady as it is now. The Peaches singer is known for having battled darker days in the past - at one point in his life, the A-Lister music face had his bodyguards checking his pulse while he slept. In 2021, Justin made headlines for getting candid about his substance abuse. Speaking to GQ while aged 27, Bieber revealed that despite his immense success, he felt a constant sense of emptiness. He turned to drug use to fill the void, but at a massive price.

'Yearning' For More

Justin shared, "There was a sense of still yearning for more. It was like I had all this success and it was still like: 'I'm still sad, and I'm still in pain. And I still have these unresolved issues,'" adding,

"And I thought all the success was going to make everything good. And so for me, the drugs were a numbing agent to just continue to get through."

Got Super Serious

The Canadian superstar confirmed that the public had no clue "how serious" things had gotten, calling the situation "legit scary." He added,

"I was waking up in the morning and the first thing I was doing is popping pills and smoking a blunt and starting my day." The husband to model Hailey Bieber also revealed having his bodyguards checking that he was alive through the night.

Losing His Career Vision

The Drew House founder, who has since found stability via both his faith and with 2018-married wife Hailey, further shared that he had "lost control" of where he wanted to go with his career. He even said that he would single out peoples' insecurities and "prey" on them for gain. Here, the singer said that he was a "young angry person" and had become a person he did not want to be.

Happy And Healthy

Justin is now the picture of health and living a happy life with Rhode skincare founder Hailey. Also open about their substance abuse battles and recovery journeys are singer Demi Lovato, fashion mogul Jessica Simpson, and actor Matthew Perry.

Reflecting, Justin concluded: "Before, I didn't have that to look forward to in my life. My home life was unstable. I didn't have a significant other." Justin has since made headlines for reaching out to others going through substance abuse or mental health issues. For more, give Justin's Instagram a follow.
