Christmas gifts present quite the conundrum: to ensure that everything is under the tree come December 25th, it's necessary to buy gifts in advance...but the more you plan ahead, the harder it is to keep everything a surprise.

One Redditor asked the online community if he was in the right after he angrily canceled his girlfriend's big gift, just a few days before Christmas.

It might sound harsh, but context is everything — and in this case, practically everyone agreed that he was in the right.

That's Right: He Canceled Her Gift And Isn't Going To Be Replacing It.

The original post has been removed, but you can find an archived version here. Unfortunately, OP didn't offer any follow-up, but when you read the story and the responses, it becomes pretty clear that no follow-up was really necessary.

Any sympathy that might have been felt for OP's girlfriend totally went by the wayside because of her nosy, snooping behavior.

As OP points out, it's one thing to try to guess your gifts ahead of time, and it's another thing entirely to invade someone's personal space and determine exactly what you'll be getting. The former is fun and games, while the latter is cheating.

That's Tough But Fair.

It's hard not to feel for these people who want an honest opinion of what seems to them like a standard relationship squabble, only to be told by everyone that their relationship is over and they should get out while they still can. Then again, if you're going to air your personal drama online, you should expect whatever you might get.

For anyone who's in a relationship with a person who respects their personal space, there isn't much to take away from this story. But if there's one thing that everyone can take away, it's the fact that changing up your passwords from time to time is never a bad thing.

How Would You Have Handled This?

Let's say you're in the exact same situation as OP: you bought your significant other something nice, you want it to be a surprise, but they betray your trust and figure out what it is. Do you still give it to them? Let us know what you think in the comments.
