The actor has had a whirlwind year, especially his very public trial with ex-wife Amber Heard who accused him of domestic abuse, and he replied with a countersue for defamation.
While lips are still sealed on Johnny Depp's return to his Jack Sparrow character in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Jerry Bruckheimer is spilling some details.

Despite his victory at the trial, Johnny Depp isn't giving his return to the character a thought, because he felt betrayed by Disney in the wake of the abuse allegations.
However, according to Bruckheimer's words to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has considered killing off Jack Sparrow in the past but it fell through,
"You can't (kill Jack Sparrow). We tried to kill him. It didn't work."
This statement referenced how Sparrow met his end during Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, after the Kraken killed him, but he resurfaced in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
The producer is reportedly one of Depp's biggest cheerleaders and advocates for his return as the iconic character. However, he's keeping mum about whether he will be making a return to the big screens soon.
"I can't answer; you have to ask them. He's a friend, a great actor and it's a shame that our personal life leaks into everything we do."
The producer continued that there're multiple Pirates movies being developed, and a reboot of the franchise will feature Margot Robbie as the film's lead, but that will come after another major project.
"I think that [reboot] script will come forward at a certain point. We developed two different stories for Pirates and the other one's going forward first, so that's what we're working on, to try to get that one made."
We're completely in the dark on if Johnny Depp is somehow included in this lineup of new projects.
Amber Heard recently announced she'd not be launching an appeal against the jury's decision in the libel trial earlier this year- this move would have seen them back in the courtroom again.
The announcement is a relief for Depp, who's now looking forward to returning to the big screen and performing for a much larger audience.
We're not sure if this will include Jack Sparrow, but what we can do now is be patient and trust the process.
