Dakota Johnson is sporting a surprising new look.

The 33-year-old star was spotted on the set of her new film, Daddio, wearing a hair color that was many shades lighter (at least 50?) than her signature brunette. She had been sporting dark brown tresses for much of her career but switched it up to bleached blonde for the upcoming indie movie, where she plays the female lead opposite Sean Penn.

Photos of the stylish new look are now circulating online, and fans have thoughts.

In one photo, Johnson can be seen wearing the new color while putting on lipstick before a take. Her platinum blonde hair is styled into a chin-length half updo with face-framing curtain bangs. Another pic shows her alongside Penn as they shoot a scene.

In another image, she’s standing beside a yellow cab, wearing a black leather jacket and a striped scarf. Then there’s a dramatic scene where she’s touching her co-actor’s cheek.

There are also mid-shots of the actress wearing a padded black coat, and full shots of her standing by the door of a townhouse carrying a red tote with a silver suitcase on the steps beside her.

The short blonde style is definitely a big change from her usual long brunette tresses, and fans are making their thoughts known. One comment said, “Oh no, not with blonde hair 😑 Brunette hair fits her much better! ❤️,” while another defended it, saying that she looks amazing and can “rock any style.”

Is It A Wig?

Someone asked if it was a wig and another replied that it was because she was still a brunette last week and they’d been filming for nearly a month. Another fan pointed out that Johnson is actually a natural blonde and just dyes her hair brown.

What Is 'Daddio' About?

In the upcoming film, the Fifty Shades of Grey actress plays a taxi passenger opposite Penn’s cabbie. Her role was originally supposed to be played by Daisy Ridley before Johnson was cast.

According to the synopsis (per Deadline), Johnson gets into Penn’s taxi, and the two strike up “the most unexpected conversation.”

The summary continues, “What begins as amusing chit-chat quickly takes a turn towards mysterious and playful, then grows into viscerally honest revelations about relationships, sex and power dynamics, loss and vulnerability.”

The movie is currently filming in New Jersey and does not have a release date yet.
