People usually leave an inheritance to their children as a way to make life easier for their children. However, many people feel entitled to get an inheritance from their parents. Oftentimes, the sharing of inheritance often causes disagreement after the death of the parent and sometimes even before their death. A Reddit father took to the platform to question whether he was wrong for spending his children's inheritance after they started disagreeing over it.

He Devised A Solution To End The Strife, And Now His Kids Blame Him

The Reddit father is unhappy over the recent development of his children due to the inheritance he planned to leave them. The 63-year-old, who recently retired, took advantage of his financially buoyant days to save up a good amount of money for his children's inheritance. He was a father of four, including two lawyers, an engineer, and a salesman.

The Redditor disclosed that he does not have a lot of years left due to the effect of many years of smoking. After his children found out about this, they began scrambling for the inheritance and started backstabbing one another. Starting with frequent verbal confrontations, they went on to engage in legal battles over their inheritance even though their father was yet to pass. The boiling point, however, came when the first child, a daughter, forged her brother's signature to take out some of their inheritance while the father was being treated at a hospital.

This resulted in even more problems with the siblings being unable to face one another, only talking through their lawyers.

The situation saddened their father, leading him to decide to spend the money in order to stop their fight. He reasoned that if there was no more money to share, they would have no reason to fight. He donated some of the money to charity, bought some items for his wife, went on vacation, bought expensive gifts for his grandchildren, and bought better equipment for his friends and colleagues. He also prepaid for his funeral and lavished on some other goodies.

Overall, he spent about 70% of his savings and left a good amount of money to his wife.

However, his children noticed his lavish spending and began to ask questions. His daughter figured out what happened and accused her father of being selfish, adding that her children and grandkids will suffer as a result of their father's actions. This led to her father feeling remorseful for his actions, believing that his grandchildren should not be punished for their parent's sins.

The Redditor, however, did receive support from friends and acquaintances as well as other Redditors who stated that he was right to have done what he did as the money belonged to him. His friend's son also took to the platform to further clarify the situation. He also revealed that the Redditor's daughter forged her brother's signature, stating that her brothers renounced their inheritance. This infuriated the brothers and they began suing her while locking some of the inheritance for themselves before their father's death in case another sibling decided to do the same thing.
