Respect is one of the foundations of society; it is essential to form relationships, especially between parent figures and stepchildren, but as everyone knows, sometimes this is not the case, just like what happened to this woman on Reddit who shared how her stepfather disrespected her over the tiniest thing.

OP and her husband are hosting a Christmas party this year, and naturally, her family is invited. She doesn't have a relationship with her dad, but her mother married a guy, Tom, after knowing him for three months when she was a teenager.

She explained that she was never fond of Tom but always attributed it to her teenage angst. However, after what happened, she confirmed he wasn't a nice guy. OP said she was visiting her mother, and in the meantime, she helped her put away her groceries.

Yet, she forgot to put the Pepsi bottles in the fridge. She didn't know these were Tom's, but it was an honest mistake; she found out after he got home and started to yell about his Pepsi should be in the fridge because he can't drink room temperature soda.

OP let him know it was her bad, not her mom's, and apologized, but he kept ranting about she didn't have any common sense. Finally, OP just responded with a sarcastic comment, to which Tom answered, saying she was a "useless b****."

What A Disaster

Tom Won't Be Attending The Party

She decided it was best to leave, but she let her mother know that if Tom didn't apologize, he isn't invited to the Christmas party. Unfortunately, her mother took it the wrong way and told her she was being unfair because she was making her choose between them, along with calling her Grinch and Scrooge for ruining her holidays.

Users couldn't understand how her mother defended Tom's behavior and agreed that OP did the right thing. They told her she shouldn't even let him inside her house again, with or without apologizing.

They also called out her mother for her immature attitude, saying it was hypocritical of her given she called OP childish about her reaction. Commenters said it was unacceptable, and even though it is only a word, it has a lot of meaning behind it.

On the other hand, they mocked Tom's overreaction because he could've simply just used ice cubes or waited until the Pepsi was cold enough.

It Looks Like Tom Is Used To Acting Like This
