Being a postal worker has plenty of hazards they don't tell you about during the interview process. It's laborious work, combined with often perilous weather conditions — and don't get me started on the inevitable animal bites.
But one postal worker/TikTok user appears to have formed an understanding with the animals on his route. Not only do they not seem to mind him coming onto their property, but some of them have even become friends.
As it's stated in the oath of the postal worker (first uttered by the Greek historian Herodotus) "Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds."
However, what Herodotus failed to consider is that the weather is just one of the many job hazards a postal worker is forced to deal with on a regular basis. Not once does Herodotus make any mention of the legions of snarling dogs that lay in wait for the postal worker — nor does he bring up the cats with claws sharp as razors that posture for the proper moment to strike.
At least, that's the story for the vast majority of letter carriers and postal workers. But TikTok user @spiffdaspaceman (aka Kamal Amir Harris) has had a different experience over the course of his career spent delivering letters and packages. For some strange reason, the animals on his route don't fear him — far from it. In fact, several neighborhood cats have begun to think of Kamal as one of their own.
Slowly, the sounds of Thundercat's Lava Lamp begin to play as Kamal spots a familiar looking black/caramel-colored tabby cat begin to approach him. "Is that my best friend?" Kamal asks in a hopeful/rhetorical fashion. Kamal puts his phone down on the ground with the camera facing him, allowing his followers to witness as the cat greets him the same way she would an old friend. What's even more impressive is that after the cat receives a little love and attention, she decides to join Kamal on his route.
Just like before, the cat comes when it's called and allows Kamal to get close and perform a much-needed scratch right under the animal's chin. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a third and final Tabby makes its way into the frame — allowing Kamal to pet it.
It's unclear as to whether or not Kamal lines his underwear with catnip or if he is simply some sort of modern-day Doctor Doolittle. But whatever the case may be, it's clear that he has a special way with animals.
