Billie Eilish certainly knows how to turn heads.

Whether she's rocking a baggy sweatpants look, sneaking some PDA on the red carpet with her boyfriend Matthew Tyler Vorce, or showing off her feminine side, she always looks good.

The Met Gala in 2021 was no exception. Here, we take a look back at Billie's gown, including the special significance behind it.

Billie Wasn't Always Comfortable Showing Skin

At the start of her career, the 20-year-old was often shown wearing extremely baggy clothes. In a Calvin Klein advertisement, she explained the reason behind this, saying, "I never want the world to know everything about me."

“I mean, that’s why I wear big baggy clothes: Nobody can have an opinion, because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, you know?”

Billie's comments certainly resonate. It's hard being a celebrity who puts their body on display for the world. It can lead to strangers on the internet picking apart every flaw.

Baggy Clothes Prevent Her From Being Sexualized

"It kind of gives nobody the opportunity to judge what your body looks like," she said in an interview with Vogue Australia. The singer was 17 at the time, which makes perfect sense that she would want to hide away from creeps.

She went on to say that she wants to dress in "layers and layers" and that she wants to be "mysterious." She has certainly accomplished that!

Her Met Gala Look

Now that the star is older, she's become more comfortable in her skin and has been showing it off to the world. When she attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala (Met Gala), she opted for a new look.

Dressed in a peach off-the-shoulder Oscar de la Renta corset ball gown, she looked every bit like an Old Hollywood icon. Swapping out her signature dark locks for blonde gave her a Marilyn Monroe vibe. The whole outfit was pulled together with black eyeliner and deep pink lipstick.

The Glamourous Look Meant A Lot To The Star

"I've always wanted to do this. I was just scared and didn't feel comfortable in my skin and I feel like I finally did," she said on the red carpet.

Eilish also shared the inspiration behind her look, telling Keke Palmer that holiday Barbie played a huge role. "It was my favorite thing in the world," she said. "I would ask for them for Christmas every single year. The dresses, genuinely that was my inspiration."

We can't wait to see how she dresses next year!
