He Was Quite Secretive Until The D-day

The 26-year-old described his wife as a "stoic introvert" and for this reason, he decided to do something a bit intimate just for her. He wrote of how his wife had a best friend called Jimmy, who was quite close to the family. The Redditor who initially was not close to Jimmy relayed that they grew closer over time, and Jimmy was the one who helped him with the birthday plans. Because Jimmy was an artist, he decided to learn how to paint, so he could make something nice for his wife.

In order to not let the cat out of the bag, the young man became aloof towards his wife, often spending time away from her, and letting her know he was with Jimmy. This went on for two months ahead of her birthday. So while he would give excuses before leaving the house, he would often be at Jimmy's learning how to paint. The internet user stated that a week before his wife's birthday, he informed her that he won't be around, and she seemed fine with it.

On that fateful day, the celebrant got dressed and left for work, unknowingly giving her husband ample time to set up his surprise. The Redditor noted that he immediately got to work, putting things in place and setting up his wife's birthday cake and presents. He noted that she would usually get back home by 5:30 pm, and he was done by that time. However, the celebrant did not return home as anticipated. The Redditor stated that he waited for hours before calling Jimmy to know if his wife was with him, but she wasn't. He then tracked her phone and discovered that she was at a restaurant.

When he got there, he noticed that his wife looked unenergetic and unhappy even as she was surrounded by friends he presumed were from her place of work. He then proceeded to get her out of the restaurant so she could get his surprise. When they got home, the situation worsened because she started crying, and after that day she started sleeping on the couch while refusing to speak to him. The Redditor stated that after he told his mom all that happened, she referred to him as an AH, but he was still confused about why everything went wrong. Here's what readers had to say:
