Lately, the internet seems to be obsessed with calling out celebrities for being "nepo babies." Short for nepotism, the term is generally geared toward actors and models whose success is usually credited to their famous parents. Hollywood is full of famous people with famous parents, from Jamie Lee Curtis to Jaden Smith to anyone with the last name Coppola.

There are plenty of nepo babies who are successful in their own right. But, many people take issue when one refuses to acknowledge that their famous last name or relation helped them get their success. Recently, Lily Collins defended herself and her success, after being branded a nepo baby.

As Phil Collins' Daughter, Many See That Lily Had Opportunities Others Wouldn't Have.

The Emily in Paris star was featured in Vogue France and discussed how she worked hard to step out of her father's shadow throughout her career. She said in the interview, "I’m proud of my dad, but I wanted to be me, not just his daughter. For that, I was ready to wait to break through." For Collins, she was willing to work hard to become an actress rather than rely on her father's name to give her opportunities.

In recent years, Collins has enjoyed a successful career, appearing in films such as Okja and Mank, in addition to her ongoing role in Emily in Paris. But she shares that she's had her own struggles, further saying, "By dint of failed castings, I learned to focus more on my work, and I managed to make acting my job."

Collins Is Not The Only Star To Join The Nepo Baby Conversation.

Recently, Lily-Rose Depp made comments that likened modeling to being a doctor, stating, "If somebody’s mom or dad is a doctor, and then the kid becomes a doctor, you’re not going to be like, ‘Well, you’re only a doctor because your parent is a doctor.’ It’s like, ‘No, I went to medical school and trained.'"

Of course, she later clarified that she didn't mean to compare working as a model and actress to being a doctor, but simply meant it to mean that she can find success in the same profession as her parents.

Zoe Kravitz Has Also Spoken Out About Being The Child Of Famous Parents.

"It’s completely normal for people to be in the family business," she said. "It’s literally where last names came from. You were a blacksmith if your family was, like, the Black family."

Much like Collins, Kravitz has a famous name but has proven that she is talented in her own right.
