Social media has its highs, but Penelope Cruz doesn't care because she's protective when it comes to her children. The 355 actress opened up about her parenting style and social media rule that prevents her underage kids - Leo, ten, and Lena, 8 - from using any of the available platforms.

Although Cruz has accounts on several platforms, from Facebook to Instagram and Twitter, the actress insists it's functionary by virtue of her career choice. However, that's where it ends, as the platform is often harmful and toxic, which would harm her children.

Describing Her Maternal Instinct

A viral TikTok video of Cruz on Ellen during the promo tour of Parallel Mothers showed the actress explaining her love for parenting. She said she has maternal instincts hence her typecast roles in Pedro Almodovar's movies.

Cruz then continued saying she loves being a mother even calling it the best job in the world. Part of that job requires protecting her children and she said as much on CBS.

Social Media Is Harmful

Cruz's first grouse with social media is Cancel Culturewhere public opinion ruins a celebrity's life within minutes to days. On the flip side, the internet can also make a regular person popular in one viral moment, so it's a double-edged sword.

The second one is its ability to ruin a person's perspective, especially younger generations. Cruz would protect her children from harsh realities for as long as possible, although it doesn't mean taking technology away from them totally.

"We can watch movies sometimes, or some cartoons... not phones until they're much older, and no social media until they're at least sixteen."

Celebrity Parents Exercise Limited Control

The actress ended her explanation by saying she could be in the minority, and she's right because many celebrities share their social media platforms with their children.

However, most Hollywood stars use parental control on their children's phones, like Kim Kardashian, who shares her TikTok account with her eldest daughter, North (8).

The eight-year-old also has limited access to the internet, contrary to what her father, Kanye "Ye" West, made the world believe earlier this year.

Staying Private

It's also cultural and personal, as Cruz and her husband Javier Bardem are private individuals. They don't glamorize their romance on the internet or speak about their marriage often.

It's not the same as the Kardashians, who are socialites and make their living off social media and their relationship with the audience. Despite this apparent difference, it's evident that all good parents do their best possible to care for and protect their children.
