For one reason or another, certain TV characters have a way of transcending the medium of television. They become ingrained in our collective pop culture and revered as demigods and icons generation after generation.

One such character is the sinfully sweet and borderline psychotic Wednesday Addams, who it was recently announced is getting her own Netflix series, starring among others — Christina Ricci.

While making a recent appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Ricci stopped by to talk about passing the mantle of Wednesday and heaped praise upon her young co-star/the new Wednesday, Jenna Ortega.

The freaky fictional family first appeared in a cartoon strip published via The New Yorker. From there, the brainchild of Charles Addams has gone on to inspire countless TV franchises, films, and even a Broadway musical. But of all the popular iterations of The Addams Family, arguably none was ever as popular or impactful as the two 1990s films (The Addams Family/The Addams Family Values) directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Both films famously starred Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams, Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester, and Christina Ricci as the sweet yet psychotic Wednesday Addams.

Netflix's brand new limited series, Wednesday, will be directed by the legendary Tim Burton and stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, and Christina Ricci... as Marilyn Thornbill?

That's right, it's sad to say that Christina Ricci won't be reprising her iconic role. However, the character appears to be in good hands with budding scream queen, Jenna Ortega, taking over the mantle of Wednesday Addams.

While Jimmy tried in earnest to tapdance around the question of "will you/won't you" with Christina, the Yellow Jackets star interjected and announced that Jenna would indeed be playing Wednesday.

"The only thing I can tell you about my character is that I do not play Wednesday," Ricci said with a smile. From there, Fallon went on to inquire as to Jenna's performance and how Christina felt she measured up when compared to her own rendition of the classic TV/film character.

"So good and so wonderful to work with, and her Wednesday is, like, really incredible; a great modern take."

Tim Burton's Wednesday will premiere, perhaps not so ironically, on Wednesday, November 23rd. All eight episodes of Season 1 will be released simultaneously, thus fans won't have to wait to binge the show to their heart's content.
