Baby names are often a controversial subject. You're never going to find a name that makes everybody happy, even if you're trying to pay tribute to people who have meant a lot to you in your life. When you're a celebrity, that scrutiny is magnified, especially with the history of celebrity baby names being a little bit out there.

Rebel Wilson has just opened up about the reasoning behind her baby name choice after revealing earlier this week that she had welcomed her first child via surrogate.

It shouldn't be a surprise that someone named Rebel might have some unconventional naming ideas.

Rebel, who also has siblings Ryot and Annachi (pronounced like riot and anarchy respectively), is no stranger to unique names, so when she revealed her first child's name, it wasn't a surprise that the first name, Royce, was pretty unusual.

"Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate," Rebel announced on Instagram this week.

"I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle! I am forever grateful to everyone who has been involved, (you know who you are), this has been years in the making," she shared on Instagram.

"But particularly wanted to thank my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care," she went on.

"Thank you for helping me start my own family, it’s an amazing gift. The BEST gift!!I am ready to give little Roycie all the love imaginable," she said.

"I am learning quickly," Rebel wrote.

She added that she was sending "much respect to all the Mums out there! Proud to be in your club."

Rebel has now revealed her daughter's full name is Royce Lillian Elizabeth Wilson.

"I wanted an original name starting with the letter R and so eventually landed on that one," she said, and then explained that the middle names are significant too.

"Lillian and Elizabeth are both family names carried by women in my family who I admire. Elizabeth, which is also my middle name, after the late Queen," she told People.

Rebel said that motherhood has been "overwhelming and exciting."

"My love for her is just overflowing. She is gorgeous and perfect. I felt like, 'Wow, this is such a precious miracle.'"

Rebel had revealed in the past that her physical transformation in 2020 came after a fertility doctor in 2019 told her she had a better chance of freezing her eggs if she lost weight.

"He looked me up and down and said, 'You'd do much better if you were healthier,'" Rebel explained. "I was taken aback. I thought, 'Oh God, this's guy's so rude.' He was right. I was carrying around a lot of excess weight."

"It's almost like I didn't think of my own needs," she said.

"I thought of a future child's needs that really inspired me to get healthier."

We couldn't be happier for Rebel and her family!
