Chances Are You've Been Pronouncing Adele's Name Wrong This Whole Time

There's nothing worse than learning you've been pronouncing someone's name wrong for an extended about of time. While my name is easy to pronounce (Taylor, like Swift) I still sometimes get called Tyler — I can't imagine how people with less "traditional" North American names feel.

As it turns out, musical genius Adele is someone we've been unintentionally disrespecting this whole time, and I couldn't be more sorry!

There are many celebrities who have fallen victim to mass mispronunciation.

Once news outlets, fans, and social media start calling a celebrity the wrong name, it's all over from there. It's a train that can't be turned back.

Remember when Chrissy Teigen revealed we'd been mispronouncing her last name?

It's pronounced TIE-GAN, not TEA-GAN.

"Gave up a long time ago," Chrissy revealed on Twitter back in 2018.

However, nothing shook me like finding out I had been mispronouncing music and makeup icon Rihanna's name for nearly TWO decades.

While appearing in a video for British Vogue, the songstress introduced herself as “Ree-anna."

Well, Rih Rih, I couldn't be more SORRY!

Last year, we also learned that we had been pronouncing "Clueless" star Alicia Silverstone's name wrong for years, too.

In a TikTok, the actress took part in a viral challenge where people tell their followers what their name is, and then how people mispronounce it.

"My name is Ali-see-yuh," she announced. "Ali-see-yuh. Not Alee-sha."

In the caption, the actress went on to explain why its important to say her name properly.

"Just an FYI… It’s Ali-SEE-yuh. It doesn't bother me though! But my sweet mama didn't like it... so for her... get it right! Ali-SEE-yuh!"

Well, just when we thought we had corrected all our wrongs, it turns out we've been doing our girl Adele dirty too!

This week, the singer hosted a happy hour with fans to give them a sneak peek at her new music video for her single "I Drink Wine."

During the afterparty, Adele answered questions from fans in person and those who had submitted videos.

One video question was from Annie from London, who asked Adele about her self-love journey.

Before answering Annie's question, the 34-year-old was surprised at how she pronounced her name.

"Is she from Enfield? She said my name perfectly!" Adele announced.

Adele then demonstrated how to properly pronounce her name, which sounds like "Huh-Dale" not like "Uhdel" as most of us have been saying for over a decade.

Honestly, I love learning how to properly pronounce people's names — it's so important not only with celebs but with the people in our everyday lives, too!

Names mean so much, so let's all make an effort to pronounce them properly, shall we?
