Everyone has regrets. Oftentimes, this regret takes the form of buyer's remorse: spending too much money for something that you don't really need.

One TikToker is tearfully claiming that she's experiencing the biggest buyer's remorse of her life after mistakenly buying a couch for $100,000. Her story is wild, but does it add up? Journey down the rabbithole and we'll try to untangle this internet drama.

Couches: everyone has them.

Well, maybe not everyone, but it's hard to deny that couches are ubiquitous. How much should they cost? Brand new, you're generally looking at a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars, but they can be had for even cheaper if you're getting one used.

This TikToker released a video, and it's a lot.

TikToker Quenlin Blackwell, who you can find on the platform @quenblackwell, recently released a video with the title "I can't inhale." The reason she can't inhale? As she explains through her crying and hystrionics, Blackwell accidentally bought a couch...for $100,000.

Really?

The claim is suspicious. Who mistakenly buys something for a hundred grand? Why can't she cancel the transaction? Why was she even looking at couches that cost this much, let alone purchasing them? Who even has this much of a limit on their credit card?

She says it was all a joke.

This admission makes things even more suspicious. As she explains it, she "jokingly" entered her credit card info — ah, that classic gag! — to put in a "joking" bid of $100,000 for a couch.

The bid was accepted, because most people would be willing to sell their couch for this much money.

Her story is short on details.

She has all sorts of emotions, but not once does she explain what website she was on, what the couch looked like, why she can't cancel the order, or why someone would do something like this in the first place.

Making something up for views? Has that ever happened before?

This will absolutely not surprise you, but Blackwell is all about creating drama for social media clout. Her nearly eight million TikTok followers and nearly two million Instagram followers will attest to that.

She has friends in high places.

Well, she claims she does, at least. Back in 2020, she said she lived with the DJ Diplo. Diplo fired back, saying that she rents a property from him and is a friend, but that there's nothing more between them.

Is she going to bring the receipts?

It sure doesn't seem like it. The original video has racked up millions of views, thus fulfilling its purpose as a source of income for Blackwell. She's offered a follow-up, but it's short on actual answers.

It's a weird side of the content creation economy.

Just to recap, someone who's internet-famous might have made up an improbable story about buying a ridiculously expensive couch as a joke, then cried about it a lot in order to get views.

Here's the original video.
