Going out to dinner with family can be a lot of fun or uncomfortable and challenging. Family dinners often can be awkward when it comes time to pay the check. While most families decide to split the bill, others tend to argue over who will pay. Many times, this can lead to a ton of problems and family drama—not ending well for anyone.

Some individuals purposely try to force their family members to pay.

When it comes down to spending money, some people are cheap while others are generous. Some people try to avoid paying the bill as much as possible, despite how much they order at dinner.

Recently, one Reddit user shared that her sister-in-law is exactly the kind of person to make things uncomfortable.

The Reddit user shared that her sister-in-law, "Amy," always comes to visit her and her husband, and she constantly stays with them instead of staying at a hotel. She also always wants to go out to eat at expensive restaurants when she is visiting.

Conveniently, she ends up forgetting her wallet every time they go out to eat.

The Reddit user said she either forgets it at home or as some sort of excuse as to why she cannot pay for dinner, every single time she comes to visit and they go out to eat.

This time that she came to visit, Amy made a reservation at a very expensive restaurant.

When they were leaving to go to dinner, the Reddit user pulled a tip from "Two and a Half Men" and pretended she "forgot" something in the house. She went back inside and found Amy's wallet right on top of her suitcase. She put it in her bag to bring with them to the restaurant.

After they ate, the Reddit user asked for "separate checks."

Amy said just to get one check, as she forgot her wallet at home. However, the Reddit user pulled the wallet out of her bag and said she found it. Amy was "furious" and said she was wrong for going through her things. The Reddit user asked if she was truly wrong for getting her wallet and bringing it to dinner.

Many said that because Amy made the reservation, she should be the one paying for dinner.

Many Reddit users shared the belief that it's truly Amy's responsibility to pay for dinner because she is the one who made the reservation at the restaurant and chose where they were going to eat.

Another added she could have done this without going through Amy's things.

One person shared that she should have made sure that Amy had her wallet before they left, rather than go through her stuff. Make sure Amy showed her the wallet before they left for dinner.

However, some said they would have done the same thing.

"I would have done the same. She’s only furious because you called her on her crap and beat her at her own game. If she genuinely forgot her wallet she would be thanking you for having the forethought to remember it for her so since she’s so 'forgetful,'" said ladygreyowl13.

Reddit users were also wondering why they keep letting Amy come and stay with them.

Many Reddit users questions why the Reddit user and her husband continue to let Amy come and stay with them, even after she behaves this way over and over again.

Some wanted to know why her husband had not stepped up.

"I think you need to talk to your husband about this behavior. I am very curious as to why he hasn't stepped in and shut this down and wonder if he is the one encouraging her to do this behind your back," said SamGamgE.

One person shared that this sister-in-law missed a grave opportunity.

"You totally should have flipped the switch- left your wallet at home- only brought your license so she had to cover the whole bill then never taken her out to a restaurant again," shared another Reddit user.
