'Leave It To Beaver' Star Tony Dow, 77, Dies One Day After Premature Death Announcement

On Tuesday, "Leave it to Beaver" fans were heartbroken at the news that Tony Dow, best known for playing Wally Cleaver in the classic TV sitcom, which aired from 1957 to 1963. Then, just a few hours after the official announcement had been made, it was redacted and confirmed Tony was not dead.

Now, just one day after Tony Dow's premature death announcement, it has been reported by TMZ that the actor passed away in his home on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, fans were told that "Leave it to Beaver" star Tony Dow had died.

"Tony was a beautiful soul - kind, compassionate, funny and humble. It was truly a joy to just be around him," the now-deleted statement from Tony's team read at the time.

"His gentle voice and unpretentious manner was immediately comforting and you could not help but love him."

"The world has lost an amazing human being, but we are all richer for the memories that he has left us," the statement continued.

"From the warm reminiscences of Wally Cleaver to those of us fortunate enough to know him personally - thank you Tony."

Just hours after that announcement, TMZ reported that Tony was in fact not dead.

The outlet spoke with Tony's manager who explained that Tony's wife, Lauren was distraught and believed her husband was dead.

Lauren then told Tony's management the news, thus leading to the incorrect announcement.

Clarifying his mother's announcement, Tony's son Christopher said:

"Dad is at home, under hospice care, and in his last hours," he shared on social media, as per TMZ. "My wife and I are by his side along with many friends that have visited. He has a fighting heart."

Just one day after the premature announcement, it was confirmed that Tony had died in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 27.

"We have received confirmation from Christopher, Tony’s son, that Tony passed away earlier this morning, with his loving family at his side to see him through this journey," Tony's official Facebook page read on Wednesday.
