Fans of Hill Street Blues are mourning the loss of Taurean Blacque. The actor, best known for his depiction of Detective Neal Washington on the hit cop show, was 82 years old.

The news broke to fans in an emotional statement from the actor's family, as reported by Deadline.

Taurean Blacque was best known for playing the no-nonsense Detective Neal Washington on all seven seasons of NBC's acclaimed cop show "Hill Street Blues."

The role was so beloved, in fact, that Taurean received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1982.

Taurean is also best known for starring alongside Vivica A. Fox in the original cast of NBC's daytime soap opera "Generations."

The role was monumental as it was the first series to include a Black family in the main storyline right from its inception, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
