Helping others is one of the most important things any of us can do. That doesn't usually involve donating a vital organ to a loved one, but that definitely doesn't hurt.
For one TikToker, though, the gift of life came with some pretty unexpected consequences. After donating a kidney to her then-boyfriend, Colleen Le admits that sometime later, he ended up cheating on her.
"Excited my boyfriend gets a second chance at life after getting my kidney," Le (@colleeeniie) captions the first part of the TikTok, which includes her dramatically pumping her arms and feigning tears of pride before running to jump on her bed.
The next part of the TikTok shows Colleen face planted on the bed, with dramatic music in the background cut. The caption changes to read, "cheats on me," because the boyfriend she'd given a kidney to, well, cheated on her.
It was posted just one month ago, and has over 11.4 million views, as well as over 540,000 likes. Hundreds of users took to the comments to express sympathy toward Colleen, as well as praise her for her generosity.
"Don’t worry y’all, I’m not with him anymore & haven’t had any contact with him for over 5 years," she wrote. Though, that didn't stop people from getting mad on her behalf.
"THE ACTUAL AUDACITY HOLY-" one comment reads.
"Yes your honor, I am here today requesting to repo my organ...I no longer feel it is the best fit," another commenter joked.
In fact, Colleen has several TikToks talking about what had happened to her all those years ago. They usually involve her making jokes or approaching the topic in a lighthearted manner.
She posted this TikTok in February, and added in a comment, "This text is from May 2017, I never responded back & it was the last time he reached out to me."
The situation sounds horrible, but at least Colleen is in a place now where she can joke about it.
At the time, though, it was definitely a shock, and led to a lot of pain.
Her ex-boyfriend cheated about 7 months after the operation, and their relationship only lasted a few months after that.
"Honestly, thinking back, I don't know why I thought giving him another chance would work out our relationship when my trust in him was completely shattered," she said.
On the TikTok from June, one commenter wrote, "The best part is you know that your ability to love is that amazing. You should be proud of yourself."
