With the release of Lightyear right around the corner, Chris Evans, the film's main star, is once again back in the spotlight.

Though the actor sports a pretty impressive resume, his best-known work is portrayal of Steve Rogers in the Captain America and Avengers movies, as well as his other appearances within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The conclusion of 2019's Avengers: Endgame saw the departure of Evans' character.

But seeing as Steve Rogers is a fan favorite, fans have been hoping Evans will return to the franchise once again. Many fans would be delighted to watch Rogers return the infinity stones.

Chris Evans has expressed some apprehension over returning to the role.

In a conversation with ComicBook.com's Phase Zero podcast, Evans opened up about how difficult once again taking up the Captain America mantle would be.

"I don't want to disappoint anybody," he says.

"It was such a good run and I'm so happy with it."

He says the character is "precious" to him, adding, "It would have to be perfect." He concludes by saying that returning to the role would be "a tall order."

Rumors of Chris Evans returning as Captain America have been floating around for ages.

In 2021, a report stated that Evans would be returning as Captain America, news that seemed to reach Evans last, as he simply tweeted "News to me" in response. This quickly debunked the rumors.

For now, the future of Captain America is going to be without Evans.

Marvel had previously announced a fourth Captain America movie starring Anthony Mackie, who takes up the mantle during the Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

While nothing is set in stone, Captain America Fans will likely be waiting a long time before seeing Evans as Steve Rogers again.

Though it doesn't look like we'll see Evans in any MCU projects in any capacity any time soon, it seems that the actor hasn't definitively ruled it out.

Meanwhile, Evans is involved in other projects.

Lightyear, which is set to hit theaters this week, is described as, "the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy." Chris Evans provides the voice for the titular toy.

So far, the film is receiving positive attention.

Fans will have to wait a few more days before the film's release on June 17th, but early impressions have been nothing but positive, noting that the film is full of surprises.

And in any case, we're pretty excited to see what else Evans is going to be involved with in the future.

Be it the MCU, another Disney property, or something totally different altogether, I don't think anyone will be upset with the idea of seeing more Chris Evans.
