Adam Sandler Explains The Weird Hijinks Behind Why He Has A Black Eye Right Now

While he was promoting his latest movie Hustle, Adam Sandler had to explain why he's had a black eye in his recent TV appearances and the answer didn't exactly make him feel cool.

Although his long and varied film career has earned Sandler legions of fans over the years, it's likely his reputation for being sweet and accommodating to those fans that has kept them.

And of course, when fans really feel like they have a connection with someone, it's not unheard of for them to know about every little detail that's going on in that person's life. It's why a story of Sandler having to wait at an IHOP suddenly became a bigger deal than it's ever been when it's happened to us.

It's likely also why he's found himself answering for his recent black eye that sharp-eyed viewers and interviewers alike have now noticed. And it's apparently got a pretty funny story behind it.

While appearing on Good Morning America to promote a movie that sees Sandler play a washed-up NBA scout, co-host Michael Strahan asked him about what happened to his face.

And the Hustle star responded with a smile and said, "This is something I have to discuss right?"

But while he would later say there was "nothing cool" about the story he was about to tell, that doesn't make the origin of his black eye any less funny to hear about.

While he was trying to sleep in his hotel room, Sandler noticed that someone had tucked in his sheets a little too snugly.

As many of us do when we're in this situation, he kicked his legs up to free the sheets and give himself a little room to move.

But whether he forgot it was there or just misjudged his strength, one of those kicks would end up launching the phone that he had left in the middle of the bed.

And as luck would have it, that phone happened to fly at the perfect angle to hit him in the face.

But while this would either make a lot of us burst out laughing or crumble in an embarrassed heap, it sounds like Sandler was too tired to care at the time.

In his words, "I refused to acknowledge it. I felt blood. I said something's going on but I got to sleep. Kept sleeping."

And while the other host George Stephanopoulos described this as the most elaborate backstory to a black eye he had ever heard, Sandler definitely thinks it looks cooler than the actual circumstances behind it would suggest.

As he put it, "It looks so cool. And I'm on the streets of New York, I see people going, 'Oh, okay. He likes to fight, that guy.' I'm like, 'It was a bed accident.'"
