A TikToker recently shared her experience of flying halfway around the world in order to procure an affordable root canal.
That's Georgia the state in the southern United States, not the country in the Caucasus, by the way. Delia detailed her experience trying to get a root canal in Georgia — and the lengths she went to in order to get one.
Three grand is a lot of money, and Delia was willing to bet she could pay less elsewhere. She notes that her family members have gone to Mexico for cheaper medical care, so she decided to take a page from their books.
Finding that a dentist in Turkey could perform the root canal for far cheaper, Delia decided to pack her bags and fly to Turkey to get the procedure. She's back now, and everything went according to plan.
To get access to the cheaper root canal, Delia had to pay for airfare and lodging. To that end, she booked a week at an all-inclusive resort in Turkey and decided to make a holiday of it.
Remember, a U.S. dentist would have cost more than $3,000.
When Delia's bills were all tallied, she paid just $1,167 for the root canal, flights, and resort stay. That means she got her procedure, plus a vacation, for less than half the price.
While Delia was able to put a positive spin on her experience — after all, a vacation's a vacation — the ridiculousness of the situation was not lost on her.
Many commenters said they'd also had to travel to foreign countries to get affordable healthcare.
It doesn't make logical sense for it to be cheaper to fly around the world to get medical care, but sometimes this is the case. It's a viable option for anyone debating a pricey medical procedure.
