If you’re going to have a bowl of cereal , chances are you’re having it with your favorite milk, too. Like, that’s just how it goes; you have milk with cereal.
Anything else just seems wrong. Especially juice. I’m sure I’m not alone in not even being able to imagine having a bowl of cereal with a helping of OJ (in the same bowl).
I guess we don’t have to imagine it anymore.
May 4th is international orange juice day, and Tropicana has stepped up for the occasion. They’re introducing the brand new Tropicana Crunch, a cereal made specifically to go with orange juice instead of milk.
I’m equally horrified… and intrigued.

According to the Tropicana Crunch website , it’s “Cereal that’s down to be drowned in OJ. Honey almond clusters that are made to be spooned and sipped.”
Okay, so they’re making it sound pretty good.
At least… good enough to try. Once.
A spokesperson from Tropicana explained to Food & Wine that, “after testing multiple flavors and textures, the company opted for a granola-based cereal because it can withstand the acidity in OJ better than things like flakes, which would go soggy more quickly.”
Why the honey flavor, then?

Apparently, that does more than amp up the flavor. The representative talking to Food & Wine further explained, “the honey almond flavor was chosen to balance against the orange juice’s tartness.”
Makes… sense?
So… May 4th. Better mark your calendars.

It’s unclear whether or not this cereal is actually going to be for sale, but Tropicana is planning on giving boxes of their experimental cereal out for free starting on international orange juice day.
I’m sure they have people turning their heads now.

In Tropicana’s own words, “Because whether you hate it or love it, you won’t know until you try it.”
I… kind of hate how much I want to try this cereal.
And of course, the internet is pretty… divided on this.
Some people seem to be a little more adventurous, and willing to try this odd combination. To be fair, you aren’t really going to know how it tastes unless you try it.
Other people are… less than excited, let’s just say that.
Orange juice with cereal does seem like a sacrilegious combination. Not to mention plenty of people will have tried it as kids, and just know it won’t be for them.
Whether it’s bad or good, it’s still… an attempt.

I honestly can’t blame Tropicana for trying this experimental cereal out. Even they know it’s pretty ambitious.
Also from their website: “It may not be for everyone (but it could be for you!).”
And I guess we won’t know for a little while still.

May 4th could be a day that breakfast foods change forever. Or, it could just be like any other day in the year. Looks like we’re about to find out.
What do you think? Will you be trying it? Let us know in the comments!
