While some celebrities are like chameleons with their appearance and are always changing it up, others are known for rocking one specific look, and when they deviate from that look, people are shocked. Whether it's a famous brunette suddenly going blonde, a freshly shaved head, or something as simple as a new haircut, sometimes these changes can be too much for fans to handle.

Just ask Zooey Deschanel.

Zooey Deschanel is best known for her starring role in 'New Girl.'

Of course, you probably also recognize her from films like 500 Days Of Summer, Yes Man, or Elf. While her work is iconic, it's nowhere near as iconic as her signature style — lots of sundresses, floral patterns, and most importantly of all: her chic, blunt bangs that defined an era.

Whenever Zooey ditches the bangs, fans are always shocked.

"Without your bangs, you are totally unrecognizable," one Instagram commenter wrote, while another one added, "Who is this girl? Why is her picture on your Instagram? I don't believe that's you..."

I can't say I blame them — parting her hair in the middle is almost a fool-proof disguise!

Zooey has now spoken out about the phenomenon of being seen as a totally different person without her bangs.

When asked by Buzzfeed if the reaction was something she expected, Zooey responded, "Not at all! Well, and I, a lot of times, just have my hair out of my face in my life, so that's what's funny."

"My family recognizes me without bangs," Zooey added.

"It's truly shocking to me, but I mean, it's funny."

It's wild what a difference hair can make — who knows, maybe we've all walked past some really famous celebrities in our lives and just not been able to recognize them with a different hairstyle!
