The "Lose You To Love Me" singer is getting candid about how dramatically her life has improved for the better in the last four-and-a-half years, since stepping away from the web.

Despite being one of those most-followed people on Instagram, Gomez has had the app deleted for years.

In a 2019 interview on Live With Kelly & Ryan, the former Wizards of Wavery Place actress pointed out how damaging Instagram was to her confidence.

“I think it’s just become really unhealthy," the 29-year-old said.

She admitted that social media was beginning to negatively affect her mental health, which prompted her decision to leave it behind once and for all.

Gomez pointed out that a significant amount of time obsessing over likes and comments, and being exposed to certain content had ultimately become a point of stress for her.

"To spend time fixating on all these comments and letting this stuff in, it was affecting me. It would make me depressed," she explained.

Gomez added that comparing herself to what she would see on Instagram was starting to make her look at herself differently and question her own image.

"It would make me feel not good about myself, and look at my body differently," she said.

While speaking with Miley Cyrus on her Instagram Live talk show in 2020, Gomez took the opportunity to open up even more about mental health.

She revealed that she does a lot to maintain her mental health, including regularly seeing a therapist who specializes in dialectical behavior therapy — a type of psychotherapy.

She explained that partaking in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) comes with homework that has been very helpful for her on her mental health journey.

“I have tons of workbooks, like a nerd, but I love DBT ... I have notebooks that kind of help me do that,” she told Cyrus at the time.

Later that year, she got candid about how music has been therapeutic for her as well.

“When I have moments in a studio and create something from a place of, I don’t know, happiness, or sadness or grieving something," she said, adding, "it’s such a safe place for me.”

Now, she's going on four-and-a-half years sans-internet.

“It has changed my life completely. I am happier, I am more present. I connect more with people. It makes me feel normal," she added.
