Although common, home burglaries can be traumatic. In 2019 alone, there were an estimated 1,117,696 burglaries in the United States. When someone invades the privacy of someone's home and steals belongings, it's a violation on many levels. For former soccer player, David Beckham and his wife, Victoria, it was alarming when their west London mansion was broken into by a man wearing a mask. Even though many valuables were lost, their family is grateful that everyone's alright.
Victoria And David Beckham's Home Targeted In Burglary
Beckham's son noticed a broken window.
Beckham's teenage son, Cruz, noticed the window of their guest room was shattered after he came home from hanging out with friends. He told his parents immediately, and David Beckham called the police.
Expensive items were stolen.
While the burglar didn't get too far, pricey "designer and electric goods" were stolen. Luckily, only one bedroom was looted for items before the burglar fled. The family still has what's most important, their most sentimental valuables and each other.
Their security system was helpful.
The Beckham family had installed a quality security system that provided a clear visual of what happened at the house. They were able to see the burglar go out the same window that they entered the house through and track where he'd been. Despite the details they were able to quickly gather, the experience ultimately left them feeling violated.
The burglar may be part of a gang.
It would seem this wasn't an isolated event, as the police suspected that this was related to a criminal gang that also targeted two other houses in the area on the very same night. Looks like this burglar was making the rounds that evening, we can only hope that for the Beckhams and others, the culprit is caught.
The Beckhams live in a neighborhood called "millionaire's row".
The Beckhams live among the west London elite neighborhood, dubbed "millionaire's row" alongside celebrities like Sir Elton John, Robbie Williams, and Simon Cowell. While living in a lavish area has its perks, but also makes fancy living full of unique risks of being targeted.
They were also at home with their 10-year-old daughter at the time of the incident.
Beckham's daughter, Harper, was also home that night, which made the family even more afraid of what may happen to them. Both David and Victoria were sleeping, and so was Harper. They've explained that they're feeling "shaken up" after the entire ordeal.
This isn't the couple's first experience with a break-in.
While this was startling, it's not the first time the Beckham's have experienced problems with a break-in. Their Cotswold mansion was targeted twice in 2018. It would seem that they may want to purchase just a bit more security, maybe even a guard or two.
This is a reminder of the importance of home safety
Whether you're a celebrity or not, anyone can be burgled. It's important to ensure that the proper security technology is used along with preventative measures, like closing windows and locking doors. While it's hard to calculate every detail that's needed, it's wise to be mindful of our surroundings.
Hopefully, the Beckhams can have peace of mind soon.
It's hard to feel like a house isn't a home when someone has invaded it. We can only hope that the Beckham's have closure when the burglar is found and that their things can be returned.
